Abstract

|
This study is planned to investigate the knowledge of nursing care purpose & nursing care procedure. It is absolutely needed to develop the quality and level of nursing care through in service education program.
The specific purpose of this study is as follows:
1. To grasp the knowledge of nursing care purpose respectively.
2. To find out the knowledge of nursing care procedure.
3. To discover the correlation between the knowledge of nursing care purpose and nursing care procedure.
The subjects were selected as nurses who are having over 6 months in patient care experience. The total number of subjects are 145 nurses. The study tool was developed as a questionnaire somewhat like a test. The content of the study tool was consist of the category of fundamental nursing care.
The data was collected through group test & analyzed by computer using percentage & x2- test. This study is included only the physical care field not for the comprehensive care. The result of this study is as follows:
1. General characteristics of this subjects. 65.5% of this subjects are nursing college graduates 30.3% of them were experienced from 6 months to 1 year, 26.9% were experienced from 1 ´h to 3 years, and 42.8% of them were experienced over 3 years is patient care.
2. The knowledge level concerning nursing care purpose. The mean score of this test was 65.5. The item of highest score was about 24hrs urine collection (97.6%). 30.8% of total items showed score over 90.0, they were about cleansing enema, intake & output, checking the temperature, Hot water bag apply, pre-operative care, and Nelaton- cathether.
There were 18 items which showed score under 59.5.
3. The knowledge level concerning nursing care purpose by educational background. Only 5 items showed significant difference statistically between the group of college graduated & diploma graduates. Those items were about morning care, retention enema, ice bag applying, preoperative care, foley-catheter purpose.
4. The knowledge level for nursing care procedures. The subjects showed the score 79.5 of the morning care procedure. It is higher score than the 65.6 of nursing care purpose.
They showed the score over 90 for 42.3% total items, showed bellowed 59.0 score for 15.4%
of total items. Those items were about alcohol bath, using disinfectant, suppository insertion, 02 inhalation, Muller suction, and postmortem care.
5. The knowledge level of nursing care procedures by educational background. Only 10 items showed significant difference statistically between the group of college graduates & diploma graduates. College graduate group showed higher score than diploma graduate group in 9 item of them, the rest one item showed the contrary status.
6. The correlation between the knowledge of nursing care purpose and nursing care procedure. 8 of the total item showed significant difference statistically between the knowledge of nursing care purpose & nursing care procedure. It is quite natural that college graduate group showed the tendency of high knowledge level on nursing care purpose and nursing care procedure simultaneously for the 8 items.
